For over a decade, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has participated in global climate discussions as an accredited observer to the UNFCCC. However, until 2021, its involvement was modest, limited to events in the Green Zone. With the signing of the London Declaration in 2021, ISO demonstrated a transformative commitment to climate action, aligning its standards with the goals of the Paris Agreement. This commitment set the stage for an ambitious leap forward in 2023: ISO’s first-ever Pavilion in the Blue Zone at COP28 in Dubai.

10 Billion Solutions was proud to partner with ISO during this pivotal moment, providing strategic advice and communications expertise to maximize the impact of its presence at COP28.

The ISO Pavilion at COP28 was a landmark achievement, marking the organisation’s debut at the heart of the conference’s decision-making space. As the primary hub for global climate policy discussions, the Blue Zone hosts high-level negotiators, governments, NGOs, and businesses, offering unparalleled opportunities for influence and visibility.

10 Billion Solutions’ work focused on advising ISO to underscore the importance of standards as a key player in climate action and for ISO’s teams to better grasp the opportunities that COP presented on a global stage. Through workshops and briefings, we prepared ISO’s project and communications teams for the unique demands of the conference, offering guidance on leveraging their network, engaging media, and planning impactful events.

From providing inputs to the communications strategy to enhancing media relations, our collaboration was a successful example of how accredited observers in the UNFCCC process can deepen their contribution to global climate action.

The success of ISO’s first Pavilion in the COP28 Blue Zone was a turning point, cementing its role as a leader in climate standards. Building on the momentum from COP28, ISO hosted the Standards Pavilion at COP29 in Baku in 2024, further solidifying its position as a critical actor in the global climate arena.
