On his first day in office, Donald Trump ordered (once again) the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Agreement on climate change. He announced his administration’s intent to prioritize fossil fuel exploitation and repeal the Green New Deal, directly contradicting scientific consensus urging the cessation of coal, gas, and oil extraction and combustion to avoid catastrophic climate impacts.
These executive orders on energy, sustainability, and diversity are a severe blow to multilateral cooperation and to the efforts of nations, businesses, organizations, and individuals working to improve the state of the world.
Despite this setback, the climate action and sustainability movement remains unstoppable. Across and beyond the United States, numerous voices are committing to doubling their efforts in support of the Paris Agreement and to advance the sustainability agendas.
Defending climate and sustainability in front of the storm
The change of era that marks the new US government policy is not an isolated event. It comes at a time of profound and rapid change, with unpredictable consequences. In the face of these overwhelming changes, the question arises: What can we do to safeguard the social, environmental, and economic stability needed for families, businesses, and organizations to thrive?
There is no simple or definitive answer. Tackling such a complex crisis demands reflection, dialogue, and steadfast adherence to core values—like the roots of a tree, these values anchor us against the storm. However, values alone are insufficient. Only by working with courage and creativity will we be the vanguard of change so that the future looks like what we hope for, not what we fear.
At 10 Billion Solutions, we reaffirm our determination to support the Paris Agreement that remains one of our most effective tools for addressing the climate crisis.
Moreover, we will intensify efforts to champion sustainability, diversity, and prosperity as fundamental rights for everyone, everywhere.
